The Home Suite: Coming to Hamtramck features the newly formed Hamtramck World Music Ensemble composed of 6 noted local musicians. Under the direction of jazz keyboardist and Hamtramck resident, Bill Meyer, the group blends styles and ethnic influences from around the world. The part improvised music is filtered through an American lens while it accompanies interviews of Hamtramck immigrants from countries as diverse as Bangladesh, Bosnia, Poland, Nigeria, England, and Yemen.
The theme of home is explored in the various musical styles, and interplays with the sentiments of leaving ones home and finding a new one in the multi-ethnic city of Hamtramck. The video interviews alternate with five music movements that explore the many meanings of home and the passions that accompany it.
The 60 minute multimedia performance will soon be available on DVD. For more information contact Bill Meyer at (313) 207-3904 or at www.onehamtramck.org
